In which religion would participants (of a funeral rite?)wear white and throw flowers into the sea?

There was celebration on Brighton beach a couple of years ago - possibly Indian - it was beautiful, most wore white, and then one man threw flowers into the sea. There was drumming and singing, it was glorious.I beileve it was either Buddhist or Hindu, but would love to know more.
