I dont know what type of binoculars to get?

all right so i want some binoculars BUT i just dont know which ones are good, for example i see numbers like 8x30 7x50, i wanted to get the 7x50 but im not sure if i will get more bang for my buck get it? in other words i want to get the most out of it since im paying...i know it all depends on what your gonna use em for...lets say its just for hmh.. bird watching,see a boat from afar! like that..thanks alot for your help.. :-)
